Government Affairs Committee

Members of the NYSSA Government Affairs Committee,  joined by Executive Director Dominic Jacangelo, Nick Barrella and Eglantina Haxhillari of Capitol Group descended on the Capitol to meet with various legislators to press NYSSA’s legislative priorities for the year.  Discussions centered around legislation to provide landowners a state tax credit for allowing a snowmobile trail to cross their property and legislation which would provide additional resources to local law enforcement to keep our trails safe.

Assemblyman Daniel O’Donnell, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Tourism, Parks, Art and Sports Development joined members of the Government Affairs Committee to talk about A.1584-A.

Senator Jim Tedisco (Center) took time from his busy schedule to meet and express his interest and support for snowmobiling. The Committee thanked him for his testimony at the Boreas Ponds hearing in support of fair access. The Senator represents a very large portion of the Adirondack Park.

Senator Rich Funke spent time with the Government Affairs Committee. The Senator is Chairman do the Senate Cultural Affairs, Tourism and Parks and Recreation Committee. Legislation which impacts snowmobiling is most likely to go through that committee.

Senator Robert Ortt (Center) provided an opportunity for the committee to discuss with him several issues of interest to the snowmobiling community. The Senator has attended snowmobile events in western NY in the past.

Senator Pamela Helming spent time with committee members. She had many questions regarding what snowmobiling means to NY and shared that her family enjoyed the sport and understands it economic benefits to the state.
